If you've been hankering to get a netbook to see what all the fuss is all about - this might be a good opportunity.  This one has all the standard features, nothing really jumps out - except the price.

We've just started dinking around with a netbook - nice little form factor - and Windows 7 is definitely zippier than Vista.  Not real pleased with the limitations of Windows 7 Starter, but that's for another day.

Just like the trend to not have a 'land-line' at home - just a mobile - it may make sense to have desktop computers in the office connected to the network using wireless, not an ethernet cable into the wall jack.  Especially for unique situations where there simply isn't a network connection, or for temporary situations like training classes.

Here's a PCI card that connects at Wireless N (and G and B) assuming you have a Wireless N router, so the connection speed can be as good any wired connection.  Mostly favorable reviews - hard to judge, but we've used plenty of stuff from Trend with no problems.

These work really well in the home - where you just don't want to have all the ethernet cables strung around everywhere.

Taking great pictures and movies is getting easier and easier and we encourage folks to use that media in their business communications and social networking as often as possible.  So as cameras are becoming an important piece of business hardware, so should a full-size tripod.

A stable platform for the camera is very important in many situations (low light, longer exposures, etc.) and it is also a safe place to have the camera for timer shots where you run around to get in the group shot.  Jerky video is barely watchable, despite the 'artsy' feel of handheld.

In your Sunday paper, look for this Office Max paper bag.  You 'll get 20% off anything you can stick in it.  There are some exceptions - like computers, but it's a great opportunity to get a nice discount on a whole bunch of other things (hard drives, routers, mice, software, etc).

Office Max always has decent prices anyway - they don't do mail-in rebates, so everything is discounted right on the shelf.  It's a good opportunity to stock up on things you'll use down the road, as well.
