USB flash drives like this are handy for complementing a standard backup / disaster recovery plan, since most people simply don't have more than 8GB of REALLY CRITICAL files on their systems - a lot of the bigger files are music, photos, and videos, and those are often stored somewhere else as well.
The REALLY CRITICAL files are the ones you're currently working with, your 'active' files. All the current and recently completed projects, the miscellaneous stuff that you save off to a file as a temporary holding place, or attachments from emails that you've saved off to your hard drive.
